An Apple Isle native, I picked up and moved to mainland Australia in my early twenties for a few years of fast-paced fun. Unfortunately, the bright lights and pretension of Sydney just can't compare to the laidback vibe of Tasmania.
It wasn't long before I was beckoned back, and I'm now wondering why I ever left.
Favourite thing to do on a Sunday?
A lazy Sunday morning is best started with friends over brunch at one of Hobart's quirky cafes. The
Macquarie Street Foodstore is my favourite for the funky interior and the biggest breakfast menu I've ever seen. The only way to spend a Sunday afternoon is in a cosy corner of any of Salamanca's pubs down on the waterfront. Settle in and stay a while with a pint of local beer.
How would you spend a long weekend?
I'd grab a few mates and a case of Tasmanian pinot noir and head south to
Bruny Island, where the beaches are wild and the tourists are few. Nights spent around campfires, meandering afternoon bushwalks and fresh-caught fish for dinner are must-dos.
What's your idea of a good night out?
A lavish spread at one of
Battery Point's restaurants, tucked away behind the much-hyped tourist strip,
Salamanca Place. I'd see a band at the
Republic Bar in North Hobart before heading into the city for cocktails at
T42.
