Whether you're looking to splash out or keep to a budget, our Insider has the best unbiased Hobart hotel info out there.
Montgomery's YHA Backpackers
The newly refurbished Montgomery's YHA Backpackers is everything you wouldn't expect from hostel living. Clean and modern, closer to the action than most of the bigger hotels in town, with Internet facilities and a fully equipped communal kitchen. The dorm bunks even have Posturepedic mattresses! Accommodation starts from $28 per night.
The Old Woolstore Hotel
On a moderate budget, but still like to be close to the action and make the most of a comfortable quiet room at the end of a long day? Only a few minutes stroll from everything, The Old Woolstore is a tick in every box. Just keep away from the breakfast buffet in the morning; there are better food options just minutes away at Salamanca.
Cradle Mountain Lodge
Cradle Mountain Lodge offers different types of cosy timber cabins, guaranteeing something to suit everyone. With dozens of hiking trails meandering through Tasmania's famous wilderness right outside, you'll find you won't spend much time indoors anyway. Just make sure you get yourself to the Waldheim Alpine Spa after tackling those mountains; your tired muscles will thank you.
Port Arthur Caravan & Cabin Park
If family caravanning is more your style, head to Stewarts Bay for clean amenities, a friendly atmosphere and close proximity to all the fun the Tasman Peninsula has to offer. It's only a short walk from here around the bay to Port Arthur Historic Site.
Bears over the Mountain
If you go down in the woods today, you'll not find a friendlier B&B. The teddy bear-themed rooms are a quirky change from the potpourri-perfumed heritage B&Bs you'll find scattered around Tassie. Pets are encouraged to come holiday here, too!
Sheoaks
Tucked away on the waterfront at Coles Bay is Sheoaks — a superb architecturally designed B&B where you can enjoy the stunning views of Great Oyster Bay from the deck. A great place to stay to take advantage of the stunning east coast beaches.
Woolmers Estate
A stay in one of the seven cottages in the expansive grounds at the award-winning Woolmers Estate in Longford is like stepping back into colonial times — with all the mod-cons of today, of course. Don't miss out on the guided tour of the main house (complimentary if you're a guest).
Moorilla
The Pavilions at Moorilla Winery are custom-built luxury on the edge of arguably Tasmania's most well-regarded vineyard. Each private pavilion is equipped with wireless broadband, European appliances, and uninterrupted views across the Derwent River.
Penghana Bed & Breakfast
One of the grander buildings in Queenstown is now the Penghana Bed & Breakfast. The mine manager's residence has been standing for 110 years, and is a great option for affordable luxury accommodation in the west of the state.
Stanley Seaview Inn
On the north-west coast under the shadow of the bizarre geological formation called The Nut you'll find Stanley Seaview Inn. Here you'll find comfy basic rooms, and self-contained apartments. Fresh local seafood can be delivered to your room, and the operators offer a complete money-back guarantee if you don't love your stay.

User comments
I stayed at The Old Woolstore a few months back and was pleased to see it listed in the top hotels- it is in a fantastic location, the staff are friendly, efficient and helpful (ALL of them, even housekeeping) and the rooms are great value. I stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment and it had everything i needed, even a washing machine and dryer! After travelling for 10 days this was perfect- who wants to waste their holiday sitting in a laundrymat and paying too much for the pleasure? I quite enjoyed the breakfast buffet, it wasn't what you'd call 'gourmet' but at $17 for all you can eat (yes, including the hot stuff!) I was more than satisfied. Lots of cafes close, but we wanted to make the most of our day and buffet is quick and convenient- plus this one kept us full all day! We visit Hobart regularly and generally try out different accommodation each time but after staying at the Woolstore we now have a favourite and will return time and time again! Highly reccommend!
