Perth insider

In my Perth incarnation, which began in 2001, I've been a teacher, a travel writer and a tanguera (tango enthusiast). After teaching English to the hordes of international students about town, I shifted to writing articles on Perth and Western Australia for whosoever would publish them — many thanks to Scoop Traveller WA, Australian Traveller and Australian Coast & Country magazines.

What's your idea of a good night out?

For a good night, I can’t go past dinner and a show, particularly if the show’s an opera, ballet, play or cabaret at our grand old Edwardian dame, His Majesty's Theatre. If I’m feeling fiery, I’ll head out to a tango milonga at the Tango Club.

What's your favourite thing to do on a Sunday?

On Sundays, I gravitate towards Claisebrook Cove, our 'Little Lucerne', either for a spot of brekkie at Toast or for some pub grub and a bevvie at The Royal. The walk from Vic Park along the river to East Perth makes for a fetching daily constitutional.

On long weekends, Perthites head south — usually to the Margaret River region — but we like to head even south-er to the (dare I say it) serenity of the Great Southern Region that stretches from Walpole to Albany.

I am glad that being a Perth writer, your picture was taken in front of a cricket sign advertising Carlton Mid.This sign is considerably more interesting than some of our city highlights............. at least the numbers change through a cricket match. I shouldn't be so disparaging about Perth, It still holds the tittle of the most isolated city in the world, the longest white water rafting event and the only bell tower that isn't allowed to chime its bells.
