If you've just got two days in Perth, our Insider has put together the perfect itinerary just for you. Don't miss a thing!

Day one

Start the day with a stroll along Fraser Avenue, Kings Park, for unbeatable city and river views. Continue down to the Lotterywest Federation Walkway, a treetop walk up, over and through the bushland, and from here go on to explore the gardens of Western Australian flora. The water garden will guide you back up to the sprawling lawns by the Pioneer Women's Memorial water fountain.

King's Park is set atop Mt Eliza and at the foot of the mighty mountain is the Old Swan Brewery, now housing a pub, a restaurant and apartments. It's a pleasure to while away a lunch time here looking out over the river and the passing river traffic.

From here venture into town and have a walk around the city — along the malls of Hay and Murray streets and through London Court. Westwards on Murray Street you'll find the funky end of town — the boutiques and bars and a miniature Rodeo Drive in King Street. Northwards over the railway line is the WA Museum, with contemporary, historical and cultural exhibits, and the Art Gallery of WA, featuring works by Clifford Tjapaltjarri, Robert Juniper and Frederick McCubbin. Eastwards on Hay Street is the Perth Mint, popular for the gold pour where you see molten gold transform in seconds into a solid gold bar.

To get about town expeditiously, take a sightseeing tour on either the double-decker bus or the trolley tram, both of which are "jump on, jump off".

Day two

Subiaco is where it's at for inner-city entertainment of all kinds. There's nothing you won't find around the crux of Rokeby Road and Hay Street in Subi: there are bookshops, clothing retailers, homewares stores and high-end brands in their own enclave, the Colonnade. There are cafés, bars, restaurants, a gelataria and a tea purveyor. There's the Regal Theatre on one corner and the Subi Hotel on the other, Ace Cinemas just down Hay Street, and a dance salon one street up on Churchill Avenue. See the Eagles or the Dockers trouncing each other or the visiting team at Subiaco Oval, and for a pre-match drink, punters meet at the nearby Irish Club or The Vic. Have I worn you out yet? I hope not because I haven't even mentioned the Station Street markets, open Friday to Sunday and public holiday Mondays.
