InterContinental Bali Resort

Set upon 14 hectares of pristine beachfront landscape in Bali's seafood capital of Jimbaran Bay, The InterContinental is the five-star luxury accommodation option on the island. Unmatched by any hotel in the area, the on-site Planet Trekkers and Rip Curl School of Surf affiliation are both great ways to keep the kids amused while mum and dad unwind by any one of the beautiful pools. Featuring numerous tantalising restaurants (including world-reknowned KO Sushi Lounge & Bar), a traditional Balinese spa and exceptional amenities for InterContinental Club members (like 24-hr butler service, and an 'Inspiration Space' to name but two), this high-end resort is priced surprisingly well and will be hard to beat on your next luxe holiday.

Desa Seni

Meaning "art village", this retreat in Canggu, sits amidst rice paddies and comprises refurbished, original wood huts, each reflecting the architectural style of the Indonesian island it originates from. They're decorated with original artefacts and antiques. Guests can plant a seed at the organic gardens, of which the produce is used in dishes served at the on-site restaurant.

Melka Excelsior Hotel Resort

As the name suggests, this place in Ubud is great for those after a romantic experience. Owners Ketut and Janet live on the premises with their four children, so families and small groups will also feel comfy.

Pondok Bambu

The Pondok Bambu in Candidasa offers a simple, relaxing bit of respite, made all the better by the awesome staff, who make the place very homey.

Bloo Lagoon Village

I can partially agree with 'Doug, from Darwin'. However there is a few things I feel need clarifying.Padang Bai is indeed a picturesque place. However lounging on the 'sandy beaches' is not recommended due to the locals nightly ritual of defeacating on the beach, one only has to look of an evening to see them lined up like a row of ducks all squating down.Charming stuff.Pretty much same can be said of the maroc inn, its 'nearly 'clean, staff are friendly, but major issues with mosquitos, noisy old fans, third world abolutions, and the innkeepers suspect billing practices which make it far cheaper to stay anywhere else, all this and constant moaning of how little they are making from you.An Indonesian 'Fawlty Towers'.
Forget about Kuta and Sanur! If you want a real Bali holiday head north to Padang Bai. Padang Bai is perhaps the most underrated holliday destination in Bali. Diving, snorkeling, touring or just laying about on the sandy beaches. And for the friendliest, cleanest and posibly the cheapest and best homestay you will find in Bali, you can't go past Marco Inn and Polo Bar. Great atmosphere, great staff, couple of Aussie expats that put on Sunday roasts that are better than you get at home. With the rooms decked out with pastel linen, ensuite, rooftop garden, courtyard surounded with tropical flowers and a bar over the road from the beach.
We stayed in this great little resort on Lembongan Island. Its called Coconuts Beach Resort it is on the side of a hill overlooking the ocean. The view from the two pools across the seaweed farms and surf to the mountains of Bali is incredible. Traditional grass roofed huts, but very comfortable aircon or just open with fans with wonderfully friendly staff. Amazing surf right in front of the resort and great snorkeling and diving. We will definitely go back again next year. I just sat in the pool and drank cocktails while I watched my guy surf. Very romantic candle light dinners and no tv in the room to cause distractions. Mmmmm
Forget bali altogether and go where people in the know go!!! Lombok !! you can see lombok in bali but you cant see bali in Lombok. A beatiful untouched Island paradise and with many things to see and do without the costs of bali, and you can go to tGili Air just off lombok and enjoy real Island paradise with some of the best snorkelling in the world. 15 minute flight from Denpassar to a real Idyllic paradise, TRY IT!!!
