A career carouser, Xania Woodman, firmly believes that if the mayor of Las Vegas can rule with a martini in-hand, so can she. Remember: "What happens in Vegas …" invariably gets back to your mum.
From restaurants to nightclubs to nightclub journalism and always with a special place in her heart for Downtown's mixology scene after eight years in Vegas Xania is still deeply in love with this dynamic, multifaceted experiment in the desert.
What's your favourite thing to do on a Sunday?
Most Sundays find me recovering from the nights before, parked at my nearest Starbucks, nose-deep in a non-fat latte and my next column. Three-hundred-plus days of sunshine per year equates to an exquisite year-round view of the mountains, and ample time to appreciate them. If it's hot, I hit the pool parties. Cold, I hit the slopes!
How would you spend a long weekend?
Nothing could be finer than checking something off my lengthy Vegas to-do list. New nightclub or a swanky speakeasy, buzz-worthy restaurant, even a cheesy tourist attraction it's all a welcome distraction from work, work, work. (Did I mention I review nightclubs for a living?)
What's your idea of a good night out?
A "good" night is made "great" when it starts out in a theatre: ballet, movie, Cirque du Soleil … even something underground, avant-garde or a concert. Next, it's dinner, at either a hot new joint or a funky old favourite as long as there's a superb wine list. Then finish the night up at a nightclub or lounge, anywhere with a knowledgeable mixologist and generous-sized martini glasses.
