Portrait Suites
Above the Salvatore Ferragamo store, Portrait Suites is a small Italian townhouse hotel. It's owned by the Ferragamo family, who've transferred their devotion to quality to this collection of studios and suites overlooking Via Condotti. To stay here is to sink into intimate luxury in Rome's beating fashion heart.
Villa Laetitia
A well-kept fashionista secret, Villa Laetitia, set in an elegant riverside mansion, belongs to the Famiglia Fendi Venturini. Each unique room or suite has a retro glamour that's created by the classic furnishings — mostly acquired during Anna Fendi's travels. It's not half as expensive as you might expect.
Daphne Inn
Run by an American-Italian couple, there are two branches of boutique B&B Daphne Inn — one at Barberini, the other nearer the Trevi Fountain. The former is the pick, but both are smashing. The look is sleekly, chicly modern, and the service has an eager-to-please American edge.
Hotel Sant' Anselmo
Set in the lovely, residential — yet central — district of Aventine Hill, Hotel Sant' Anselmo has lavishly romantic décor (think frescos and four posters) that verges on the knowingly kitsch. It's a gorgeous place to stay, and some rooms have little terraces with views.
Hotel Santa Maria
It's great to stay in Trastevere's beguiling narrow web of streets, and Hotel Santa Maria is minutes from beautiful Piazza Santa Maria. The red-brick building feels modern, but is a one-storey complex, with pleasant rooms set around an orange tree-filled courtyard. They also recently opened a nearby residenza.
Hotel Locarno
A sinuously wood-carved bar and wrought-iron lift set the Art Deco scene at the Hotel Locarno. Besides original fittings, it has a great location (close to Piazza del Popolo). Rooms are occasionally faded but this adds to rather than detracts from the charm, plus there's a leafy roof terrace.
The Beehive
Run by an on-the-ball Californian couple, The Beehive is as boutique as a hostel gets. Rooms are gleaming white, with shots of colour in the modernist furniture. There are changing exhibitions on the walls and in the inviting little vegie cafe. Besides dorms, there are six doubles. Book well ahead.
Hotel Lady
For a simple pensione with Roman charm, try Hotel Lady. It's close to the Vatican, and has pretty rooms with wood-beamed ceilings. Some have shared bathrooms. It's owned by a friendly couple, who will make cheerful conversation in Italian whether guests can speak the language or not.
Residenza Cellini
Central and convenient: ride the vintage lift up to this graceful two-floor hotel, which has lemony walls, polished furniture, parquet floors, and pot plants. Bathrooms may be a touch snug, but service is helpful and courteous, and there's wifi.

I would suggest to travellers who plan on spending more than a night or two in Rome to check VRBO- Vacation Rental By Owners (this is a global accommodation site). Some are very expensive but others are great deals and allow you the pleasure of a home not just a room! I have used them on several occasions with great results. For example in Florence I had a central studio apartment which included TV microwave etc for Euros 40 in peak season!
I would highly suggest you to check this website www.bookhotelsinrome.com. Me and my wife saved 20 euros for a double room per night. The hotel booked was clean and right in the city centre. We would definitely use them again.
